Ok, I was going to wait until this was finished, but I haven't worked on it in a while and thought I would post it to see what you say.

This is my idea for a Personal Battlecruiser, laid down 1912. It is largely based on the Lexington Battlecruiser by Chuck Ship Art.

Sorry, for the yellow background and green lines. Like I said, I haven't finished it yet and I still need to add details to it.

1.) Those should be 'Turrets on Barbettes' rather than 'Coles-Ericsson Turrets'... the former are like what are on modern battleships, the latter are like what was on an 1860's era monitor.

2.) You do realize that she's armed more poorly than the Hood was, or than the planned version of the Lexington and Amagi classes... yet she is four times as heavy?

3.) A 40' drought means that she wouldn't be able to navigate many of the world shallower passages. There are parts of the English Channel, for instance, that I'm not entirely sure that this ship could safely pass through.

4.) a 40' high armor belt? That's twice as big a slab of metal as was on the side of any battleship ever built!

This thing is huge for no reason!

Could you not cut that belt substantially and increase the casemate complement amidships?

Also you have stay lines going from funnel to funnel. IIRC this is not a good thing as one funnel could topple and pull all the other ones down with it since they're daisy-chained together.

Stay lines go from the vertical element being supported to the deck and nothing else!

Haha, yeah. I know I went a little overboard on the size. Forgive me for that.

Colo, I get what you're saying. Next time I work on this, I'll fix that.

Carthaginian, that should be a mistake. I'll change that.
Also, it was built in 1912 and I got the inspiration from the proposed Lexington BattleCruiser that Chuck Ship Art drew. That's why there aren't as many guns as I would like. When this version gets completed I plan on doing several refits, like a 1920s refit, an early and late 1930s refit and a 1950s refit. When I do those refits, it will be upgunned.
Like I said above, I know i went overboard with the size.
The armor belt does decrease in thickness. The upper area, in between the casemounts, is like the personal living quarters, so it is armed for protection of the VIP, ie me.

Guys, I know this ship is huge, but I am using it as a drawing exercise, and that is all it is meant to be (and a personal battlecruiser).

EDIT: How about this I'll downscale it a little, to maybe 1000, or 800 feet?

*shrugs* personally...I think it's already a vast improvement over your previous ship drawing efforts which mostly suffered from style problems. I think you should be allowed to proceed as-is because it looks like nice practice.

But yeah...definitely shrink that armored belt. Right now it just looks ridiculous.

Missouri is a little bit under 900' long if that tells you anything.

klag, honestly to me the belt looks like it is in proportion with the ship. Right now it is 40 feet of 12 inch armor. Would 30 feet be better? If so, thats an easy change.

Colo, like I said, I am well aware that this thing is huge. This is a drawing exercise, and you and I both know well enough that it's not the largest contraption to come across the board, so please cut me some slack at least!

Chuck, it's more like inspiration for the month. I started this thing around the start of february and then it got sent to the back of my to do list.
