Hello again
Something I've been working on time and again since January: Marceau, Hoche, Neptune and Magenta. Four ships with quite interesting looks sometimes referred to as belonging to the same class, but differing enough to be considered four one-offs.
First, Marceau as commissioned in the old style paintwork
The same ship late in her career with cut-down masts and a new colouring (the green lower-hull colour contained arsenic to guard the ships against shell growth; probably also served as a deterrent for deserters who planned to jump overboard
)
Neptune was a half-sister to Marceau with all the 'improvements' that made french ships of that period so endearing: huge, unarmored superstructure and heavy military masts, making them absurdly top-heavy
Magenta originally looked rather similar to Neptune, but unlike her was modernized by removing some top weight
And finally, le grand hôtel, the Hoche, with very good accomodation, but always somewhat prone to capsize
Greetings
