Definitely like a cruiser! So, the bow wave can be applied!

So here is the Lexington in 1941 with Measure 1 and the false bow wave. Other changes are two extra .50 cals on the cage masts, and a CXAM radar. The ship now has Kingfisher seaplanes.

Cool but the false bow wave was just one color (white) and not nearly as extensive as you have here.

Bezo is going to be so disappointed.

What do you think of my CXAM?

Actually, colo, it was so on the Northampton, or so the photographic evidence appear to indicate, though, she may very well have sported a dark blue shade beneath the crest.
However, I see no reasons for not creating a more "realistic type of camo bow wave, since the USN did experiment with that.

Colo does have a point, in that, for cost and time measure, and considering your ship's dark hull color, a simple white crest might be enough, alternatively filled in with a darker shade of blue.

As for the extension, that is modified from the length as seen on the Northampton, so, yes, it can be adjusted, but, in all likelihood does not need to. So, that'll be the preference of the artist.

Mind you, colo, there was never any such thing painted on the Lexingtons, since the two units ended up, not as battle cruisers, but as carriers! In other words, a little play of the imagination here is wholly permissible!

As for the drawing, it's simply awesome! The CXAM-1 radar really suits her!
One thing though, that popped into my mind: how about using the names of the units cancelled? Constitution, Constellation, Ranger and United States?
That way there's room for two to have been converted as CVs!

Love it! Great work so far, will you continue modernizing the ship throughout the war?

A little late to the conversation but although they would have definitely been considered capitol ships they would have been treated more like cruisers, not that it matters, Nevada had a false bow wave also.

Keep em coming!

Turns out we're both wrong: http://www.shipcamouflage.com/measure_5.htm

It was a white upper "crest", with dark blue or dark grey below it - I was under the impression it was a single crest of white, with the base grey below it. Anyway, the actual fate of the two ships doesn't really matter - regardless of where they ended up, the USN camouflage Measures applied to all ships.

It "looks the part", but sorry to say I don't really trust any of the radars drawn by any of you guys until I've been able to fully check it out using the references I have... for AU work I'm sure it's fine.

Naval Radar states a "17ft x 18ft" antenna - the CXAM (along with most of the original USN large air search sets) is too small. I encountered this problem when I redrew the SK set...
