Another idea, actually, is to make it a submarine with a high-surface/hydrofoil-surface running mode.

See? Not only is that futuristic, but it can take advantage of the classic Star Trek ship-based aesthetic elements, much as my design does. The general concept of the Defiant hull would actually be very well-suited to this - you could just smooth it over to suggest a more organic look, in turn suggesting a marine (as in sea) ship.

And yes, Starbase Leatherneck IS named after, and to an extent modeled after and in honor of, the real life Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan.
It also reflects a lack of imagination, as a tendency of being capable only of being grounded in current events.

I have an idea to go with the Defiant hull form, but it's going to be DRAMATICALLY scaled down, even from the small estimates of size at 120 x 90 meters. Also, I'm going with the idea that the vessel has to be able to completely submerge and navigate in water as shallow as 25 feet (this is a riverine environment, after all.)

If we go with this, I'll make sure you get credit for the submersible hydrofoil idea.

Alright, Klagldsf, Let's see what we have here.

I smoothed out the design slightly, and shrank it down considerably. There is a single deck aboard this vessel, with an aft boat launch at the stern that is usable when the craft is running in Mode 2. It's capable of firing a limited number of Photon and Quantum torpedoes from a pair of short-run torpedo tubes, one forward, one aft, and has two pulse phasers. The Defiant-style nacelle pods contain both the primary ballast tanks and it's Mode 1 drive system. Two aft hydrofoil pods contain two aft driving pods, and one forward pod for stability.the rear pods can also be turned up to 45 degrees for steering.

so is it a starship also i dont see the point of it having a warp engine.

The idea was actually to use something SIMILAR to warp nacelles to move the water.

Surely you want impulse drives not warp...

Actually, I figured Impulse drives would boil the water, creating a massive steam cloud, reducing any chances of stealth. by using magnetic fields to accelerate the ship through the water (or pull water through the nacelles and accelerate it out the back, like an advanced water jet), it would be a much stealthier, and quiet, propulsion system.

But... warp drives aren't based on magnets, so having a warp nacelle... is just for the looks?

Same form, different function. The Warp nacelles of a starship contain "Field Coils", just producing a Subspace field that "Warps" the fabric of space. This craft uses a different type of coil to generate a magnetic field, rather than a subspace field, to influence the river's water rather than the fabric of space.

So it's like the caterpiller drive from Hunt for the Red October?
