Hello fellow Shipbucketians,

I have designed a trimaran to be used in a border protection role/anti-piracy role/fisheries protection role for Australias coastline. I have named it the Island Class. Started this morning and have just finished it this very minute. I have done her from scratch using my library of reference material as guides.

I am submitting HMAS Moreton Island (PFG1125) as my first vessel. She is still a WIP so bear with me.

Why SeaSparrow and ESSM on the same ship?

So that they can work down the SeaSparrow stockpile. The RIM-7 is still a functional missile against a variety of threats so if you have it, there is no sense in not using them.

As for the ship, she looks a little top heavy to me (but most things look top heavy to me). I do wonder where the aft facing radar panels are?

Harpoons? What kind of smugglers do you have down there?

Yup, the Smuggler have a new Air Force branch. There should be at least a 76mm gun IMO since there is SeaSparrow/ESSM and Harpoon. You can just make it into a trimaran frigate and it has more than enough equipment for a boarder patrol ship.

Thanks for all of the feedback gents.

I have made some changes to the vessel after some research (having a library of books at hand is a godsend).

I have had a few concerns regarding the upper superstructure but I thought seeing that she is a wide beamed trimaran, that shouldn't really be an issue. Looking at some designs on line and in books I have noticed that most of the trimaran/LCS type ships do have a somewhat bulky and topheavy structure. They are though, in most cases, made entirely of aluminium (some lined with kevlar protection as well).

This Russian vessel has been my main inspiration:

This ship is in a state of evolution though so watch this space. I am currently working on PFG1127 HMAS Kangaroo Island and I intend to do some class changes for comparison of ideas and vessel roles.

Interesting. :) But yes, maybe a wee bit sophisticated for the intended role. And am I looking at further missile silo's on either side of the bridge?

Also, isn't a crew of 175 a tad much for the intended role?
