There are a few people who do the top-downs, David Latuch and Syzmo are the only WW2 USN top down drawers to spring to mind. Otherwise the simple 3x15pix is a good guidline

I do only modern ships top view, but when I do some classic it often results in this:

I'm pretty sure the USN painted their decks during the war as a camouflage measure.

So I was walking the decks of USS Wisconson the other day as well as a few decks made out of teak and you know wood decking really is more grey than tan in color after a couple years.

I know I spent two years on the Newport News (CA-148) and you're quite correct, teak does turn gray.

After about 150 years, Burmese Teak turns a very unique grey-white

There's no such thing as "nothing left to draw" If you can down 10 pints and draw, you're doing alright by my standards

Henrik, The USN holystoned the decks with pumice blocks to sand and remove the salt build-up the was little time for oiling the deck.
