I need some help here. I do not know how to accurately use reference photos, nor do i understand how to get the precise measurements on anything. I guess what I am saying is, is there a more in-depth tutorial than the one posted on the main website>?

The best way to start is to get hold of an accurate linedrawing of the ship you want to draw.
Start by tracing the basic ship on top of that, then turn to the pictures to get the finer details. Obviously there are times when there's no linedrawings available and then you'll have to go by pictures alone, but I suggest you get a few drawing under your belt before you do that.

Best suggestion is to start with a real or a never built ship first. This will let you get a feel for real world design, and will let you use references to get your footing.
